Push, Pull Assesment
October 30th, 20081. In this clay project you were asked to look at the work of five artists: Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Ishamu Naguchi, Joan Miro and Jean Arp. How did looking at their work affect how you constructed your own?
It was very helpful to see how professional artists created their own push pull sculptures. Out group noticed that especially with Henry Moore we were able to use some of the techniques he used to create positive/negative space in our own work.
2. What did you discover were some of the characteristics of the clay while you were making this project?
I noticed that when I was making my piece that it would often dry up quickly if you did not properly wrap the sculpture and even use the spray bottle on occasion. Other than that the clay was really easy to work with and burnish.
3. If your sculpture was to be recreated 20 feet tall, what would you like it made of and where would you put it? Why?
I would have it made out of bronze. I noticed that Henry Moore used this in a lot in many of his larger sculptures and it made it look really interesting. Once it was made, I would put my sculpture on the outside of the Smithsonian along the sidewalk. These sculptures would be really fun to climb on for little kids.
